Benefit Concert is a Smash Hit!

Earlier tonight at Spike Hill in Williamsburg, three amazing bands took the stage at a benefit concert to support Broken Doll Productions: Wooly & the Mammoth, The HATE my Day Jobs, and The Constant. Each of the bands put on a stellar performance. We wish words were adequate to express our gratitude to the amazing musicians who played at the show and to everyone who came out to see the show. We would also like to thank the staff at Spike Hill, particularly Mads Black Just-Olesen, for helping us put together this fantastic event.

Feed your ears at a benefit concert featuring The HATE MY DAY JOBS ("Garage-y swagger rock, male vocals ring of Television on meth, good ballsy rock and f***ing roll." KZSU Stanford) and The Constant ("independent bands come out with great music, but this is GREAT music." Alternativeaddiction.com). Come on down and rock out for a good cause (Broken Doll Productions is a free non-profit youth-run theater education program serving Brooklyn youth). Donation Season

Today, seven of BDPs youth facilitators pounded the nearly 80-degree Brooklyn pavement hunting for donations for our upcoming silent auction on June 16, 2012. We received many awesome donations from the various local craftsmen (and women) at the Williamsburg Artists & Fleas. Special shout-outs to everyone who donated, and to everyone who took the time out of their day to listen to us!

PS: Meet the BDP youth facilitator crew on the new page. Oscar Rivera, senior youth facilitator and BDP secretary, took some great portrait photos today before they headed out to hunt.

We Need Your Help!

Broken Doll is soliciting donations for our Silent Auction, slated to take place the weekend of June 16, 2012 (with a rain date of June 23, 2012). Not only are you all invited to attend the our Silent Auction extravaganza, but we're also imploring you to help. We are asking for donations of interesting items for our auctions. Crafts, art, books, gently used household items, gift certificates, gift baskets... if you think others might want it, we'll take it. In addition, we've created an Amazon Wishlist (http://amzn.com/w/DL39XO76G7CO) with items we need to produce the event. Instead of a direct donation, you can order something off of our wishlist for us and help us produce this fundraising event. Please think about this before you discard this post and think about what you can give. Every little bit helps.

So you want more good news?

Why stop at having a summer home? Why not find a sugar daddy (momma) if you can? Well we found our fiscal sponsor and as of April 3,2012 at 12:30 PM Broken Doll Productions will officially enter into a fiscal sponsorship contract with The Field. Why I'd fiscal sponsorship so exciting you might ask? Because now we can actually apply for government and foundational grants under The Field's official 501c3 certification! A viable summer budget is starting to look amazingly realistic!

Anyway, I'll be attending an orientation at The Field on April 3rd and will be signing the sponsorship contract directly after. Keep your eyes peeled for grants that might help us out. If you hear of any, shoot us an email at brokendollbrooklyn@gmail.com. I'll keep you posted (literally) on our grant applications process.

Summer Home—Pictures!

10 Goodwin Place. That's right folks. The paperwork has been signed, a deposit has changed hands. It is officially official. Like, seriously. From July 9, 2012 through August 17, 2012, Broken Doll Productions' Summer Youth Theater Production Day Camp will be located at Cre808 Studios at 10 Goodwin Place, Brooklyn, NY 11221. Eric and his wonderful wife, the co-owners of Cre808 Studios, are as excited as we are to have Broken Doll Productions housed under their roof. I'm including some pictures in this witty little post to give all of you an idea of what our new home looks like.

Broken Doll's Summer Home

Don't start complaining about how long it took me to post this: Cre808 took some time getting back to us. The best part is, however, they said yes! We met with Eric, who co-manages Cre808 with his wife. Eric is amazing and showed us around the amazing space, right in the heart of the Bushwick community. For anyone who wants to take a peek, you can walk by 10 Goodwin Place, our summer address, and try to imagine what it looks like inside. Also, feel free to contact the folks over at Cre808 if you need space to host your own events, rehearsals, or classes.

Epic Success!

So luckily not every task I undertake spins out of control into a downward spiral of failure.

This evening we saw Cre808 Studios, a small, yet spacious basement studio on Goodwin place on the border of Bushwick and Bedstuy.

Epic Fail

Okay, so I DIDN'T visit Cre808 last Tuesday as planned (cut me some slack, I have RA). I did, however,  manage to get through nearly TWO FULL seasons of Supernatural. Oddly enough, the series takes an odd turn towards the end of the first season. I'm in the last quarter of the second season now and I'm not sure how I feel about it. But I digress...

Cora Dance and Other News

Tomorrow evening at 6:30, BDP will be in Bushwick checking out Cre808 Studios. Cre808 is a communal art space in Brooklyn that is available for rental for various events, rehearsals, classes, performances, and other exhibitions. We discovered Cre808 through the convenient website New York Performing Arts Spaces, a website that has listings of all spaces in the five-boroughs, the types of events you can rent space for, the prices for private and non-profit rentals, and more info about each space than you might actually need. Anyway, Cre808 is high on our list of hopefuls for a space to actually host our summer camp this year. We will keep you posted after our visit.
