Meet the Staff

Karen Anne Kolb, President
Karen is a social worker and co-founder of Broken Doll Productions.  While working on her MSW from Hunter College School for Social Work, Karen co-created BDP to provide young people in Brooklyn the opportunity to participate in music and theater education during the summer months.  Although Karen took a non-traditional route to working in theater and music production in New York City, first graduating with an undergraduate degree in Criminology from Mount Saint Mary College, she is currently reconnecting with her roots in music and believes that her former years spent at a violinist and double bass player has provided her with discipline and respect for stage performance.

Karen is determined to use Broken Doll Productions to create a family like environment for young people and help transform young performers into vibrant artists who will have the skills to help transform their neighborhoods and will act as leaders to other young folks.  She believes that artistic expression can be a useful tool for creating a better sense of self and can help build self confidence as a leader.

Karen is excited to work with young people and artists in the Bushwick community, and all over Brooklyn, and to be a source of great memories for our participants.  If you would like to reach Karen, email her at karenannekolb@gmail.com.

Oscar Rivera, Secretary
Oscar is a freshman at Parsons, The New School for Design, and is a photography major. He plans on eventually becoming an art teacher after graduation. Aside from his talents as a visual artist, Oscar also has a love of the stage. He has been cast in several theatrical productions on the Bushwick Campus, including Aida, Into the Woods, Rent, and Urinetown. Oscar is thrilled to work in theater again with Broken Doll Productions, and hopes all of the participants in the BDP summer program receive the same enjoyment and sense of accomplishment from working in theater as he always has. Contact oscar via email at riveo080@newschool.edu.

Samantha Elie, Treasurer
Samantha is a senior math and sociology double major at Hamilton College, graduating and entering the real world in May.  She hopes to teach high school math and conduct educational research someday. While she has taken a 4 year hiatus from theater during college, Samantha remembers the fun and pride she had being a member of stage crew in high school, and hopes to get kids interested in all parts of theater.  Contact Samantha at samantha.elie731@gmail.com.
